Vista Hermosa means beautiful view in English. Indeed, the town is blessed with incredibly beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and volcanoes. If only their water and sanitation systems were as beautiful. The town first approached Agua del Pueblo early in 2021. Our engineers visited on June 25, 2021, to perform a preliminary assessment. We have been searching for funding since then. The Rotary Club of Annapolis, Maryland, recently decided to help. I’m going to visit Vista Hermosa with seven representatives of the cub in late January. With your help, we can raise enough money to provide water and sanitation for the town and regional school forever!
Over the past decade, Vista Hermosa residents’ only water source has deteriorated such that water flows for a few hours daily. The existing system pumps water to 26 homes and the school. Community representatives approached Agua del Pueblo (AdP) for help early in 2021. AdP engineers and social workers visited on June 25, 2021, to perform this pre-feasibility study. Representatives of the Rotary Club of Lake Atitlan (RoCLA) subsequently returned to Vista Hermosa to interview community members and the water committee. Currently, the community has a total of 40 families and a regional school with 34 students.
