Join Us in Guatemala for the 2020 Summit

We enjoyed a very successful joint Agua del Pueblo, Rotary, People’s Consultants Summit this past January 2019. Thinking ahead, we are excited to begin speaking with individuals who are interested in joining us for our 2020 Summit. The dates of the 2020 Summit are Tuesday, January 14th through Saturday, January 25th. The anticipated cost per person, excluding airfare, is expected to be around $1,500 per person. Attending the annual Summit is an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in the beautiful Guatemalan culture while learning about the opportunities for improving lives in the Lake Atitilan watershed through water and sanitation projects.

The preliminary agenda for the 2020 Summit is:

Tuesday,  January 14: Fly into Guatemala City. We will meet with Guatemalan AdP founders for dinner and/or nightcaps.
Wednesday, January 15: Agua del Pueblo’s Director Emeritus, Lic. Carlos Gomez will talk of potable water and sanitation’s impact on the history and socio-
economic situation in the Mayan highlands. He saved thousands of lives during the 25-year revolution and guerrilla war. We will drive to Panajachel (Pana).
Thursday, January 16: Morning shopping, participate in the local Rotary weekly meeting. Evening with Joe and Todd’s 2020 tour.
Friday, January 17: We will take a boat ride or drive to San Lucas Tolimán. Dr. Paul Wise from Stanford will discuss the relationship between water and
health in highland Guatemala. We will visit with the leaders of our recently completed Global Grant WASH project (Phase 0). We will meet with former guerrilla leaders. We will return to Pana for the evening.

Saturday, January 18: Visit local potential partner NGO (Mayan Power & Light..)

Sunday, January 19: Boat Ride to Santiago Atitlan. Visit the site of the assassination of one of AdP’s founders, Father Stan Rother of Oklahoma.

Monday, January 20: Visit ongoing projects in Nuevo Progreso. Meet with the mayor and Mil Milagros. Visit the AdP HQ. Two other Guatemalan Rotary Clubs and MM will help brainstorm about projects that are NOT in Lake Atitlan’s watershed.
Tuesday, January 21: Some of us will visit Mr. John Barrie’s Mayan Power and Light project. Others will travel to Antigua via Iximche
Wednesday, January 22: Bus ride to Antigua via Iximche
Thursday, January 23 - Saturday, January 25: Participate in Rotary’s Central American Project Fair. You will have two other options: (1) Scale the active Pacaya volcano to roast marshmallow on lava or (2) Shop for Jade, silver and other trinkets in Antigua, Guatemala.
Sunday, January 26: We will drop off summiteers to the airport in Guatemala
